High End Decor On A Budget

It doesn’t necessarily cost a lot to LOOK like it cost you a lot…✨

I was walking along minding my on business in HomeGoods and this picture frame stopped me in my tracks, the pattern suggesting a really Jonathan Adler FEEL, I thought.

If you’re familiar with JA pieces, you KNOW these cost a LOT more than $7 (even for a picture frame 😅)

I have several pieces that I scoured for during super sales through third party vendors as well as thrifted (online).

It doesn’t have to be JA style either.

Whether you are shopping new or used, there are a few things you can look for when shopping for items are high quality in appearance, that aren’t going to break the bank:

1 - Textures

Look for pieces that have at least one “texture” to them. For example, there could be a velvet element. Or it could be a picture frame that is smooth on the outside, with a rougher interior part of the frame next to the photo. Different colors can also influence this effect (ex: black frame with gold detailing)

2 - Patterns

Look for patterns that are a bit unpredictable. I have a set of Polka Dot Kate Spade lamps. The polka dots aren’t perfectly spaced, which creates a bit more visual interest and makes the eye want to linger just a bit longer. I thrifted these lamps on Kijiji (Canada) but likely they were picked up at HomeSense by the previous owner.

3 - Materials

Look for high quality materials. You know, wood vs MDF for example. Something that FEELS like it can stand the test of time. I love a lot of Midcentury pieces because they already have!

In conclusion, it’s the DETAILS make the most high quality looking pieces, no matter what style you are looking for! ✨
